The Swiss Tournament System

In Scuffle Mode, we implement the Swiss Tournament Format. Taken from Wikipedia:

A Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format that features a fixed number of rounds of competition, but considerably fewer than for a round-robin tournament; thus each competitor (team or individual) does not play all the other competitors. Competitors meet one-on-one in each round and are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but does not play the same opponent more than once. The winner is the competitor with the highest aggregate points earned in all rounds. With an even number of participants, all competitors play in each round.

In CyberArena Scuffle Mode, each of the 8 players will be playing 3 rounds total. Winners of each match will face each other until a champion has been crowned. Inversely, the losers of the previous match will face each other for a decent spot within the top 8.

Here’s the key factor: Early rounds have more weight than latter.

For example, let’s assume two players have the same standing of finishing 2-1 in the tournament. The player who lost in Round 2 has a higher ranking than the player who lost in Round 1. In fact, CyberArena uses a point system to determine ranking and tie-breaks.

Here’s the breakdown:

Win in Round 1 = 4 points

Win in Round 2 = 3 points

Win in Round 3 = 2 points
